The 2024 SW Schools Cross-country Championships took place on Sat. 3rd February at RNAS Merryfield, Ilton, Somerset.
For the event, 67 athletes, from 21 secondary schools, were selected to represent Cornwall Schools.
Top Cornish performance went to Callywith College’s Holly Reid who, after years of good performances, had a great race to make her first SW podium in 3rd place in the Senior Girls’ race. This was particularly impressive as she has another year in the age group.
Other top performances were Oliver Williams (Richard Lander) in 9th position in the Minor Boys, Penryn’s Ava Sutton, 5th in the Junior Girls and Truro & Penwith’s Blake Williams, who took 11th in the Senior boys’ race.
Highest placed Cornish team was the Inter Girls, who placed 4th, despite winner of the Cornwall Schools Champs, Chloe Clarke, having to drop out of the race after being unwell in the days preceeding.
Teams of 8 have now been selected to represent Cornwall at the England Schools Championships at Pontefract, W. Yorkshire on March 16th (see upcoming events).
