Team Selection
It is the intention of the Cornwall Schools AA Committee to select the strongest possible teams in each age group for the South West and the English Schools Cross Country Championships.
If selected, ALL athletes wishing to be considered for the English Schools must compete at the South‐West Schools Cross Country Championships.
A maximum of ten athletes will be selected to represent Cornwall in each age group for the South‐West Schools.
In the English Schools Championships a maximum of eight athletes will be selected to represent Cornwall in each age group (other than Year 7 Girls and Boys who do not participate at the National event).
To be considered for selection the top 20 finishers in each age group at the County Schools Cross Country Championshipswill be given an availability card to complete. This card must be completed in FULL and handed to their Team Manager for them to hand into the Marquee at the start area at the championships.
County Team Selection Criteria
1. South‐West Schools ‐ The first six finishers in each race at the County Championships will be automatically selected provided they are of sufficient standard. The Cornwall Schools committee will decide upon the other 4 places.
2. English Schools – The first three finishers in each race at the County Championships will be automatically selected as long as they also compete in the South‐West Schools Cross Country Championships and provided they are of sufficient standard. The first three finishers in each race at the S.W. Schools Championships will be automatically selected provided they are of sufficient standard. A maximum of eight athletes will be selected. Other representatives will be selected based on the average of their finishing positions at the County and South‐West Cross Country Championships.
3. All Selection is conditional on the athlete travelling with the team.
Only in exceptional cases when athletes are on International duties or at International Trials will the committee waive this selection criteria.
