EIGHT VICTORIES.

Cornwall Schools Athletic Team had 8 victories at the South West Schools Championships held on Saturday 16th June at Exeter Athletics Track; with a further 5 athletes being placed in the top three.

There were three wins in the pole vault for Senior Girl Tammy Kearney (Truro College), Junior Girl Lucy Hughes (Helston) and Ben Parker (R.Lander) in the Inter Boys. Sam Brereton (Wadebridge) continued his winning ways in the Inter Boys high jump. Truro School had two winners with Finn Birnie in the Senior Boys 3000m and Harris Mier in the Inter Boys 1500m. There was an exciting race in the Senior Girls 1500m with Katie Hughes (Helston) & Imogen Wood (Truro College) racing it out for the top two places. Molly Mather (Torpoint) won the Senior Girls 400m hurdles with Lowena Riley (Helston) being third. Sadly, our third runner in that event Joely Bytheway (Callington) had a nasty fall in the race though valiantly finished.

The relay team in that age group were also in second place – runners Micho Tao (H.Davy), Harry Gurr (Penryn), Henry Curtis & Nate Robins (Penrice). Aaron Worgan (R.Lander) produced a personal best performance and National Standard throw for second place in the Inter Boys discus.
